My name is 2 Chainz and I had to spend the week in the hospital after I caught Parvovirus. I was diagnosed on Friday and went home with medication but I was feeling so poorly my parents took me back on emergency Sunday. Dr McDiffett and her Vet Tech where so nice and put me on IV Fluids and injectable medication. I had injections and fluids until I felt better but I still refused to eat until I got home the following Friday . It’s been a couple weeks and I’m back to see Dr McDiffett and get the rest of my shots to help me from catching anything else. I am doing very well! I’m so glad my parents and the staff at the Vet Clinic loved me so much and were willing to take such good care of me.
Parvovirus is a virus that is highly contagious and serious disease caused by a virus that attacks the gastrointestinal tract. Parvovirus causes lethargy, loss of appetite, fever, vomiting and severe often bloody diarrhea. Vomiting and diarrhea can cause rapid and life threatening dehydration. If your puppy or dog shows any of these signs, you should contact your veterinarian immediately.
Parvovirus can be prevented in most cases. We recommend starting vaccinations at 6 weeks of age and continuing with a series of vaccinations until 16 weeks or after.
